Meet Dr. Jeffrey Cone
As a father of four, Dr. Jeffrey Cone has built his practice around a simple principle: to treat his pediatric patients with the standard of care and attention that he would want for his own children.
The goal of any treatment is an excellent outcome, and he is convinced that this requires an understanding of the patient’s unique needs and then tailoring treatments to fit those unique needs. He thrives off of building relationships with his patients and their families, and has been recognized for compassionate, patient-centered care, receiving the Osler Scholarship and as an inductee into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
“One of the humbling facts about pediatric reconstruction is that my role as a surgeon is to initiate a physical change or healing process—the child’s body then does the actually healing. Every fiber in their bodies is 100% dedicated to getting better.”
Dr. Cone has been fortunate to train under several of the country’s luminaries of pediatric reconstruction, including his partner, Dr. Hobar. As a result, he is one of a few plastic surgeons in the country with fellowship training in pediatric plastic surgery, craniofacial surgery, and laser surgery. He specializes in ear deformities, nasal deformities, cleft lip and palate, craniofacial syndromes, and the laser treatment of vascular birthmarks.
He has published and lectured in nasal reconstruction (cleft rhinoplasty) and cleft lip repair and its effect on growth and skull reconstruction. He is also active in international medical missions, traveling to underserved areas such as central India and Haiti to perform cleft lip and palate surgery.
“I am often asked, ‘How did you choose pediatric plastic surgery?’ and the answer is simple. This field is one of the few that combines cutting edge science with artistry in order to significantly improve a child’s life. As a result, it is both challenging and incredibly rewarding. Few things are as fulfilling as a big smile from a child because of his or her excitement about a result. From my perspective, this makes it the best job in the world.”
