An Interview with Dr. Hobar
What made you choose plastic surgery as a profession?
“I actually wanted to be a heart surgeon, but God’s grace would put me in a plastic surgery elective rotation in Dallas, Texas as a senior medical student from Florida. I was blown away by the intricacies of the surgeries and the way lives were changed for the better. On my first day, I saw a young woman get her life pieced back together with breast reconstruction after having survived breast cancer; I saw a farmer get his hand sewn back on after it had been amputated in a farm accident; and I saw a beautiful child have her face reconstructed, overcoming birth deformities she had lived with for seven years.
It was the child and the tears of joy from her mother that not only convinced me that day that I wanted to be a plastic surgeon, but that I wanted to be a craniofacial plastic surgeon.”
